Call for Participants: SCORED: PEN PALS

Are you interested in documenting movement-based practices on paper? We are thrilled to share this open Call for Participants for a virtual performance event hosted by Juli Brandano at Pieter this June:

SCORED: PEN PALS is both a live virtual performance event and a published collection of scores-as-correspondences between pen pals from the West and East coasts, bridging communities and practices after over a year of pandemic-induced isolation.

Each participant will be paired with a pen pal from a different place, with whom they will exchange scores (instructions, drawings, poems: however you want to convey the dance you are trying to make.) Pen pals will rehearse/add to their partner’s score or combine to build one together, and the results will be performed virtually through Pieter on Sunday, June 20th at 5:30pm PST.

If you are interested in participating, please write to by Saturday, May 29th with the following information:

Are you able to perform your score virtually on Sunday, June 20 at 5:30pm PST? (If not, I still welcome your participation in the publication!)

Time limitations and more details about the correspondences will be sent out when you are assigned your pen pal. Images from the performances and the scores themselves will be published in a collection, which will be the second issue of SCORED.

SCORED is a collaborative publication project begun in 2020 that seeks to document movement-based practices on paper. To see the first issue SCORED: PUBLIC WORKS, click HERE.
