About the Teacher:
Stacy Dawson Stearns has been engaged with the teachings of Grotowski for over 20 years, exploring body as the convergence point of revelatory somatics, personal and shared imagery, and dramatic/historical material. This work has shaped her view of performance as an authentic encounter between artist and audience, subject matter, environment, and self that conveys the artist’s unique experience while encouraging subjectivity and intuitive response in the viewer. She received extensive Grotowski training from luminaries Steve Wangh (author of Acrobat of the Heart), Suzanne Baxtressor, Andre Gregory, and Kevin Kulkhe in the late 80’s/early 90’s, and has been innovating her own integrated approach to the work for the past 16 years while training students at MaryMount Manhattan College, NYU, and California Institute of the Arts (current faculty). A Bessie Award-winning performer, Stacy’s career spans a great deal of time and space.
