DEDCAT Society presents, Hydro Jardín: A night of art, landscapes, sound, movement and interactions

LA’s newcomer artists are gathering to greet, connect, create, and re-create. To celebrate the launching of this multi-disciplinary collective, we are sharing our works-in-progress as well as fully fleshed out pieces with the community in the form of a performance/pop up gallery/fundraiser event, courtesy of Los Alimos Brewing and Pieter Space. We hope to hydrate your inner thirst for creativity and curiosity

Christina Ward is a multi-media composer from Fort Worth, Texas. She specializes in concert theatre works, and is known for connecting media forms with complexity and dramatic attentiveness that result in a composed counterpoint between different types of sensory information. Her works seek to pull the audience into the atmosphere of an alternate world that lives in the space between the reality of the performance setting and imagination. Her music and installation work have been performed in cities throughout the United States, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. She holds degrees in music from California Institute of the Arts and Texas Christian University.

Chris Prophet is a Los Angeles based composer whose style ranges from the traditional to the abstract. With a propensity for multi-disciplinary collaborations, he has increasingly focused on the exploration and dismemberment of melody, form, and expectation.

LA + SF based Japanese composer Kenji Oh (b. 1981) writes music that evokes vivid images as if he carves sculptures or painting scrolls, greatly influenced by his Japanese background and incidental music since he is also a media composer.

Oh’s music has been performed at various venues in US, EU and Japan. Awards and honors he has achieved vary; for orchestral, choral, chamber music, and also film music. He holds MM in composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with David Garner.

LA-based avant-garde ensemble, Gnarwhallaby will be premiering his latest work in November at Los Angeles City College

Evan Montgomery’s Storytelling Ensemble:
A recent graduate of California Institute of the Arts, Evan Montgomery started this ensemble as a part of a re-imagining of Garrison Keillor’s “News From Lake Wobegon”. For the Dedcat Society’s performance in Pieter Gallery on Oct. 10th, however, Evan (guitar) is collaborating with Aaron Campbell (voice), Charles Carswell (bass), and Nick Hon (drums) to retell the story of El Bufeo Colorado, a myth from the Amazon rainforest about a river dolphin who shape-shifts into a man in order to seduce women. What begins with lust turns to love, and with music, spoken word, and poetry, this incarnation of the Storytelling Ensemble will transform an old story into something new and exciting.
