Herbs for Dreams: Plants for Dream Submersion

  • Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park 2944 Gleneden Street Los Angeles, CA, 90039 United States (map)

Cost: $33 (No one turned away for lack of funds)

Description: Herbs for Dreams is an herbalism workshop where together we contemplate our dreams symbols, revisit our dream imagery, speak to our dreams and review herbs that support us in dream work. We will work together on tools that support us in the swimming in the portal of our dream space such as drawing dream portals and working with audio to gain deeper insight into past dreams that we have had or dreams that we would like to have in the future. We also review some sleep hygiene habits that can support us in sleeping more restfully, which may support deeper dream recall.

What to expect: We will come together just one day  before the northern hemisphere winter solstice and three days before the final new moon of 2022.  Upon arrival we will have time to build a collective altar with herbs, which will be provided, and sacred items that we use to support our dream worlds, and momentos/ objects that relate to our connections with our ancestors for those who wish to bring ancestral items.  During our time together we will talk about what dreams mean to us in our personal worlds and ancestral lineages, reflect on the dreams that we have had the night prior and throughout the year, stretch and move, record audio and listen to dreams that we have had in the past while moving with them. We will draw dream portals to be used later in the spaces where we sleep and dream  and create herbal bundles/ teas to support us in our dream work beyond the workshop.  Please bring: A notebook and writing utensil. Headphones ( if you have them, if not we can improvise) An audio recording device ( like a phone - we can also improvise around this as well!)

Bio: Charmaine Bee (prefers name in lieu of pronouns). Charmaine received an mfa from Calarts and is a visual artist and herbalist and uses mediums such as sound, video, writing, movement and textile. Charmaine’s work explores historically charged materials such as rice and indigo which were cultivated in the Sea Islands of South Carolina where Charmaine was raised. Their work also explores portals as bridges and doorways that connect gaps between space and time and open up our ability to time travel as well as histories of the Black diaspora contained within portal spaces. Charmaine asks how these doorways are activated through geographic sites, material, time and spaces we may not see but can feel. Charmaine’s herbalism practice supports people in working through the dream world through lucid dreaming and dream recall, accessing personal power and voice through solar plexus and throat chakra support.

Safety protocols: Masks are optional for this event and our Button Buddy system will be used.

Accessibility note: We will be sitting on the ground, but people are encouraged to bring yoga mats, blankets, socks or pillows or anything that will help them feel more comfortable. All moving and stretching can be done while standing or sitting, and there is flexibility in how movement is approached. The park has plenty of parking in a gated lot, accessible walkways and public (gendered) restrooms.
