With a central focus on presence, feeling, and perception, Physical Practice with Nick Duranis relevant for any artist who wants to develop a more intimate relationship with the body. Guided somatic lessons which include working with the subtleties of touch and imagery are used to cultivate conscious, thinking bodies in motion. Class is a playful, amorphous, moving, breathing ritual and open to all!
Nick Duran is a Los Angeles based choreographer, performer, and movement educator. Duran holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a lecturer at California State University, Long Beach; the University of California Los Angeles’ Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance; and Loyola Marymount University. Duran’s recent collaborations with Jmy James Kidd, include: NICK+JAMES: Tender Heart in Live Arts Exchange at Bootleg Theater (2013);NICK+JAMES: LAKE in the New Original Works Festival at Roy Edna Disney Cal Arts Theater (2012); NICK+JAMES for PERFORM CHINATOWN (2012); and NICK+JAMES for This is What I Want, part of the National Queer Arts Performance Festival in San Francisco (2012). Most recently Duran performed his own every time you are near for James Kidd studio’s Gold Stage at the Hammer Musuem, as part of the biennial, Made In LA:2014. In Los Angeles, he has performed in works by Jérôme Bel, Rafa Esparza, Gerard & Kelly, Jonesy, and Julie Tolentino, and he has danced in the companies of Brian Brooks, Neil Greenberg, and Dušan Týnek, among others, in New York City.
