Stacy Dawson Stearns curates this season of mojo training for Monday Morning Class at Pieter. These classes are offered with the intention of deepening and complicating the dance, movement, and artistic practices of the participants. Los Angeles takes things to a different level and dance is never just dance. Poetry is never just poetry. Pipes are never pipes. Induce your bodymind to go to the MOJO and get thee to class!

Classes are $15-20 sliding scale, OR you can take advantage of our 12 class pack for $120 and 6 class pack for $70 by paypaling (friends&family) and writing “MMCmojo2018 12 pack or MMCmojo2018 6 pack” in the comment line. Class packs only apply to MMC Mojo Technique classes.

Mar 12, 19 // Andrew Pearson // BODIES IN PLAY

Week 1: Head, Shoulders, Knees and Booty
Week 2: The Anti-Gravity Machine

We will move in and out of the floor in improvised, choreographed, and partnered exercises to practice increased autonomy in movement. This class is influenced by classical and contemporary dance techniques, somatic practices, a background as a fitness instructor and yoga practitioner, and late nights on the dance floor.

In week one, Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Booty will invite participants to return to a beginner’s mindset as we reacquaint ourselves with our body’s parts, functions, and mechanics.

In week two, The Anti-Gravity Machine, we will more deeply explore the natural folds of the body, utilizing the softening and lengthening of joints to allow for movement and play with our relationship to gravity.

In both sessions, we will direct our skeleton in space, focusing on building strength and increasing our range of motion to maximize our physical efficiency.

Andrew Pearson is a Los Angeles-based artist dancing the line between Pop Princess and classical modern danseur. While dreams of dancing alongside the likes of Britney Spears and Beyonce first sparked his interest in dance, conservatory-style training honed his commitment to process, investigation, and the avant-garde. As an educator, Andrew crossbreeds the ideals of a nerdy academic with a sassy socialite, placing equal value on form alongside self-expression, historical context alongside pop-culture, the virtuosic alongside the pedestrian, and hard work alongside enjoyment. He aims to provide tools that will allow movers to find both strength and freedom in their bodies in order to awaken potential as well as pleasure in movement.

Andrew’s work arises from roots in the techniques and approaches of Lester Horton and Bella Lewitzky; extensive involvement in the contemporary landscape of LA concert dance; commercial, theatrical, and experimental work; and his experiences in international teaching and performance. Career highlights include: 6 years with LA Contemporary Dance Company; performances in Julien Previeux’s award-winning What Will They Do Next in Paris and Malaga, Spain; Young Caesar with the LA Philharmonic; and national touring of his solo project ‘this is a blank page’. Andrew has served on faculty at California State University, Channel Islands, Nuevo School of Contemporary Dance, Orange County School of the Arts, and has guest taught throughout Southern California and abroad, including UCLA, CalArts, Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Buenos Aires, and Transit Dance, in Melbourne, Australia.
