Stacy Dawson Stearns teaches: Trackers!
This class is for those who love to make things and those who love to find new facets within their physical practice. Stacy will share an approach called “tracking”: a technique for layering discoveries arising from experiential exploration with thematic content, psycho/emotional states of being, and texts (written, symbolic, and perceived). Each class will be a stand-alone session, yet participants who attend the series will get to go deep. Stacy will lead a developmentally-based warmup to open the body and lay down the first “track”. Participants will then be guided through a series of steps in order to determine a set of tracks that will be used in different ways, from divining character portraits to creating choreography and improvisational structures. We will move a lot, get and make cool diagrams, have fun, and share discoveries. This work is a great way to enter new phases of creation and shake off dusty ideas. I love teaching at Pieter and can’t wait to return to Monday mornings with this community!

June 12, 19 & 26 – Nickels Sunshine
Modern dance, somatics and repertory class
My interest lies in the choreographic force of knowledge attuned to the body, sensation, and emotion. I work to harmonize memory and the senses so that we can see, touch, and make sense of the stuff that comprises us, has conditioned us. Through performed catharsis and joyous surrender, I dance.Nickels Sunshine is a Los Angeles-based artist whose performances insist that the sensual is a form of knowledge and dance is not only seen but felt. Nickels teaches all levels of modern and contemporary dance technique, as well as courses in composition, dance studies, and dance pedagogy. Nickels is a Reiki Master in the Usui Tradition, a Kundalini Yoga teacher, and a facilitator of somatic practices, integrating information from: Body Mind Centering (B. Bainbridge Cohen), the Feldenkrais Method (M. Feldenkrais), Bartenieff Fundamentals (I. Bartenieff), the Alexander Technique (F.M. Alexander), Ideokinesis (M. Todd), and Authentic Movement (M.
