PERFORMACIZING is a fun-ceptual movement class designed to work out your psychic fat blockage and tone up supersensory abs – working towards accessing physical inspiration for making performance work… through sweating, leaping, shouting and weirdo dance moves from deep within! We will also explore various writing exercises designed to help you access deep crevasses of your personal experience in order to access possible performance material hidden within yourself! An excavation! A celebration! Saturday fun-de-pendence!
Jibz Cameron is a performance/video artist and actor who lives and works in New York City. Her work as alter ego Dynasty Handbag has been seen such institutions as The New Museum, The Kitchen, MOCA, REDCAT, SXSW Film Festival, and Performa ’07, ’09, ’11, as well as many international dives both great and small. She has been heralded by The New York Times as “the funniest and most pitch perfect performance seen in years” and by The New Yorker as “outrageously smart, grotesque, and innovative.” She has produced numerous video projects and two albums of original music, Foo Foo Yik Yik (2006) and Cosmic Surgery (2013). Her work has been supported by residencies at Yaddo, The MacDowell Colony, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. In addition to her work as Dynasty Handbag she has also been seen acting in work by The Wooster Group, The Residents, Kalup Linzy and in many a web series including Ambiance Man, and Rods & Cones. She also works as a professor of various performance and comedy related subjects. Her third evening length performance Soggy Glasses, recently premiered at BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music). She is currently in development on a television series with Electric Dynamite.
