Pieter and The Box LA welcome our first very first Artist-in-Residence Stacy Dawson Stearns at the Pieter Parking Space, a wheelchair-accessible, sprung wooden dance platform with multiple potential configurations, located in The Box’s gated and spacious parking lot.

Reminiscent of Pieter founder Jmy James Kidd’s Gold Stage, hosted at The Hammer Museum as part of Made in LA 2014, the Pieter Parking Space will be home to six 6-week residencies beginning this September 2021. The first two artists in residence will be our 2020 Pieter Dancemaker Grantees: Ana María Alvarez and Stacy Dawson Stearns.

VIFA: Very Important Female Artist is a working title for the experiential research to be conducted by Stacy Dawson Stearns through this generous residency at Pieter in the Parking Lot at The Box.

Open Studios: Saturday September 25th 8pm-10pm & Saturday, October 2nd 8pm-10pm

Performance: Saturday, October 16th 6pm-8pm

The Pieter Parking Space residency is located in the parking lot of The Box LA:

Please note: There is no on-site parking. Street parking and pay-to-park lots available.

VIFA Open studio sessions are casual, and guests may come and go during the duration of these events. These sessions will include artist demonstrations or sharing of material as well as opportunities for visitors to physically or intellectually participate during the session. This could include filming or being filmed by/with the artist for video research (upon consent), posing observations and questions to the artist, or learning and executing text and physical action that will then be manipulated via choreographic and directoral intervention by the artist. All participants and observers, like the artist, maintain full personal  agency at all times and all are expected to uphold the tenets of Pieter’s community agreement.

Safety Parameters: All attendees are required to wear a mask.
