This workshop will consist of learning TL repertoire and the basis of contemporary pop technique. Contemporary Pop technique is a technique originated by Micaela Taylor in 2015, that the company practices on a daily basis. This technique is a guided improvisation that includes isolations, muscle strengthening, and aerobic exercises, all initiated from the core. The style of dance ranges from hard hitting hip hop to soft elegant ballet technique. Nevertheless there is no stopping, we continue to explore movement for 40 min. pushing ourselves to gain stamina. Our goal is to be versatile in movement but to focus on building the core and specificity. Our rep calls for strong contemporary technique with an edge. Our work incorporates floor work, theatrics, space holds, and groove.
Micaela Taylor is a professional dancer/teacher/choreographer from Los Angeles, CA, where she trained at Marat Daukayev School of Ballet and Los Angeles County High School of the Arts. She graduated from Cornish College of the Arts and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance, 2014. She has worked and performed with The Pendleton House, Anna Conner & Co., Ate9 Dance Company, Zoe Scofield, Camille A. Brown, Kate Wallich, & BODYTRAFFIC. Nonetheless, her choreographic passion led her to found Los Angeles based contemporary dance company, The TL Collective in 2015. Her individual movement style of Hip Hop combined with contemporary technique has led her to find a new way for people to move which is best described as “Contemporary Pop.” Alongside the launch of The TL Collective, Taylor has been commissioned to choreograph and teach by some of LA’s best dance cooperations and communities; such as LA Contemporary Dance Company, AMDA College, and more. Micaela’s work has been presented by Highways Performance Space, Gelsey Kirkland Performing Arts Center, Raymond Kabaaz Theatre, Grand Park DTLA through LA Performance Production.
