An investigation into expanding improvisational movement awareness and vocabulary.
In this workshop participants with explore the basics of contact improvisation through floor work, rolling, partnering, and weight sharing/lifting leading up to a collective jam. Participants will draw from techniques learned in the workshop to connect with each other, the floor and other points of architecture all the while allowing impulses to guide all the different ways the body feels like moving.
Jessica Hemingway is a theater artist and teaching artist. She works at the California State Summer School for the Arts held at Calarts teaching contact Improv. For the last 5 years she has been Alumni instructor and stage manager in the Community Arts Partnership theater program at Plaza de la Raza. She also works with About Productions in their youth outreach programs and has served as playwriting mentor for their Youth Legacy Project for the last three years. Jessica is also an active actor and dancer in the LA theater community performing with the interactive Theater company Wilderness and Galiana and Nikolchev’s Useless Room.
