Description: aTRAVIESA is a monthly, community-guided groove session for anyone looking to reconnect with their body, free from judgment or expectations about “knowing how to dance.” This movement offering honors the wisdom already present in our bodies and celebrates how music and movement migrates through us - se atraviesa!

What to expect:

aTRAVIESA explores the connection between intuitive stretching, collective rhythm and tapping into YOUR inner expression. Colorful guided movement sequences are set to a poly-jam-orous playlist—boleros, ’90s house, Afro-Latin beats, Millennial and current favorites. Just a breezy sweaty juicy session on a Sunday!

Bio:

Isis Avalos-Perez is a mother and movement artist originally from South Texas, now based on Tongva land, present-day Los Angeles. She holds a BFA from the University of North Texas and spent six years touring nationally and internationally as a performing and teaching artist with CONTRA-TIEMPO.

Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor of Latin Social Dance at Los Angeles Valley College and a DEI facilitator with Courage Collective. She has been involved as an Arts leader with various organizations; ShowBoxLA, LA County Arts Ed Collective, Arts for LA and most recently has shared her artistry at The Getty and MOLAA.

Drawing on her Mexican heritage, Afro-Latine rhythms, House dance influences, and modern release technique, her movement explores the complex intersections of identity and belonging in the “in-between.”

Growing up on the Borderland deeply shapes her creative work and fuels her ongoing commitment as an artist and cultural worker.
