Description:
This open-level offering is rooted in the art of Vogue. Montay’s approach celebrates its foundations, all while prioritizing listening to the body and its needs.
This class invites us back into our bodies to reclaim our natural gifts and joy. Expect to play with the elements of Vogue, using exploration to encourage awareness, confidence, and self-expression.
This class is open to all bodies and experiences.
Immediately following Elements of Light, participants are welcome to stay for The Light Field, a workshop exploring Montay’s movement perspective.
After 10 years of developing a personal conversation between Vogue and Contemporary Forms, Montay is interested to share and expand the range of his choreographic voice with others.
This is an extended choreography session following Elements of Light and is included in the cost of Elements of Light. Prior experience in Vogue or Contemporary is highly recommended, but those who are interested will not be turned away.
What to expect/what to bring:
Water is provided on site, but please bring your own bottle!
Knee pads for added protection if necessary.
Movement accommodations will be made to the best of the instructors ability.
Please be respectful of pronouns as this is a Queer-affirming space.
Facilitator bio:
Montay Alejandro Romero (he/him) is a Los Angeles based interdisciplinary artist who was born in San Diego, California. He received his BFA in Dance from the University of the Arts in 2015. Montay is a choreographer, educator, movement artist, and performer.
He has worked with a range of dance companies, celebrities, brands, actors, musicians, and public figures through commercial, concert, and performative dance. While concert dance has been the vehicle driving his passion for movement, he arrived in the underground ballroom scene in 2015 which activated a core awakening through a form of movement called Vogue.
Montay currently explores how the agreements between Vogue and contemporary forms can bring forth prolific innovation, release, and healing in the body. Montay plans to continue creating space for others to learn, witness, and experience the gift of movement through a unique and emerging perspective.
Accessibility note:
The space is located on the 2nd floor with one flight of stairs directly up from the entrance. Elevator access is available and is spacious enough for any mobility device. The 2nd floor space is free of any steps or mobility barriers. There are no automated doors in the building.

There are two all-gender restrooms with three private stalls and a urinal. Each restroom has one stall accessible for mobility device users.
Parking:
Paid parking is available directly behind our building at 2412 Workman Street. There is an additional city lot south of Broadway on Workman Street. There is also ample metered parking in the neighborhood.
