to be a river is a foolish investment.
This 3-hour workshop/gathering is an assemblage of creative prompts inspired by the LA River, a scorned and resentful waterway. Together, we will move, sing, draw, write, contemplate, and converse. We will be slow and still. We will be quiet and we will be loud.
At a time when life seems to shrink to a trickle, we will seek the beginnings of a flood.
What to expect/what to bring:
Water is provided on site, but please bring your own bottle!
Participants are encouraged to bring journaling materials (preferably writing utensils and notebooks).
Facilitator bio:
Ajani Brannum (he/they) is an undisciplinary artist and researcher. Their practice asks what and how we mean – to ourselves, to one another, to the world. Through choreography, text, and sound, they reimagine the ancestral wisdoms of myth, folklore, teaching, and prayer. Their work makes space for collective contemplation, inviting participants to playful, rigorous examination of themselves, their values, and their relationships. Ultimately, their work challenges our habits of perception; tests the limits of identity; and builds skills for emotional, relational, and spiritual healing.
Accessibility note:
The space is located on the 2nd floor with one flight of stairs directly up from the entrance. Elevator access is available and is spacious enough for any mobility device. The 2nd floor space is free of any steps or mobility barriers. There are no automated doors in the building.

There are two all-gender restrooms with three private stalls and a urinal. Each restroom has one stall accessible for mobility device users.
Parking:
Paid parking is available directly behind our building at 2412 Workman Street. There is an additional city lot south of Broadway on Workman Street. There is also ample metered parking in the neighborhood.
