Rental Policy & Space Use Agreement

  • In order to rent the Pieter, all renters must first attend one of our in-person orientations.

These happen every Monday during Open Studio at 11AM and 1PM and again on the second Saturday of each month at 12PM and 2PM.

These orientations are an opportunity to check out the space, meet some of our staff and give us a chance to learn more about you and how you plan on using the space.

Upcoming orientation dates and times are listed on our monthly PROGRAMS calendar.

Orientations are capped at 10 people per session, so if your preferred time is not available, it is likely fully booked.

After completing an orientation, you will need to fill out our Rental Inquiry Form. Once this form is reviewed, you will receive the booking link and access to our Community Rentals calendar.

Note: You only need to attend one orientation in order to rent at Pieter.

  • Please allow 2-3 business days for staff to review your Rental Inquiry Form.

Once accepted, you will be sent a link to view our Community Rentals calendar and start booking.

Full payment is required in order to book a rental appointment at Pieter.

Appointments can be booked 24 hrs in advance up to 90 days out on a first-come, first-serve basis. You may book at minimum 1 hour and maximum 6 hours at a time.

Community Renters are responsible for booking, rescheduling and canceling their own Community Rentals. To learn what qualifies as a Community Rental, visit the Community Rentals section of our Rentals page.

Special Events have a different booking process. To learn what qualifies as a special event and to get the special event booking process started, visit the Special Event Rentals section of our Rentals page.

  • After booking your rental you will be able to cancel or reschedule your appointment on your own via the links found in your confirmation email.

Please do not delete your confirmation emails, in case you need to make changes to your appointment.

Alternatively, you may sign up for a Pieter client account at the end of the booking process and access all your rentals in one place. (Be sure to use the same name and email every time you make an appointment!)

Cancelation for appointments booked prior to February 1st, 2025:

    • Canceling 10 or more days in advance of your rental: Full refund

    • Canceling 48 hours to 10 days in advance: Partial refund minus 20% cancellation fee.

    • Canceling with less than 48 hour notice: No refund

Cancelation for appointments made on and after February 1st, 2025:

    • Canceling 10 or more days in advance of your rental: 10% cancellation fee

    • Canceling 48 hours to 10 days in advance: 25% cancellation fee

    • Canceling with less than 48 hour notice: No refund

Refunds will be reimbursed after canceling via your confirmation email. Please allow 5-10 business days for funds to return.

Note: Our refund policy does not include the 1.5% -3% payment processing fee that Square and PayPal take. Your refund may be less than the original payment issued due to these fees.

    Rescheduling:

You can reschedule appointments up to 48 hrs before the appointment date, up to 90 days in advance.

Please be mindful of other renters and try to reschedule well in advance of your booking. The sooner you know you won’t be using the space, the sooner you should reschedule and free that time up for other renters to book that slot!

If we find a renter is habitually holding time slots and rescheduling for the future, we may need to discuss and adjust their rental appointments.

If you have any questions about cancellations, rescheduling or refunds, please email pieterrentals@gmail.com

  • Maximum event capacity for our Community Rentals program is 50 people.

If you plan to have more than 50 people in the space during your rental, this qualifies as a Special Event Rental. Please visit the Special Event Rentals section of our Rentals page for more information.

  • THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS ARE RESTRICTED IN THE PIETER STUDIO:

Fire, smoking, bodily fluids, oil or liquid silicone products, glitter, tap shoes, stilettos/sharp high heels, water that’s not in a closed container.

Please open the windows if you will be using incense, perfume or other scented materials. We strive to maintain a low-scent space as a courtesy for other renters and our floormates.

Have questions about specific materials not listed here? Please CONTACT US before booking.

  • Pets are not permitted in the Pieter studio or 2nd floor spaces with the exception of documented service animals.

Please plan to be present with your leashed service animal at all times if you bring them to the space.

If you plan on bringing your service animal to a class/program in the studio, please directly contact the instructor so that pet accommodations can be made with their class structure.

  • Masks are encouraged in common spaces such as the bathrooms, lobby, stairwell, elevator and floormates’ office spaces, but not required.

Free masks and hand sanitizer are available in the shared hallway.

Renters may determine their own masking and safety protocols while in the studio space.

  • Because we share space with Gender Justice LA and APAIT, we recommend familiarizing yourself with their work and understand there may be sensitive information or activities occurring in their spaces. Please strive to be as accommodating as possible while in the common areas.

Please keep the doors to the Pieter studio closed during business hours (8am-5pm Monday through Friday) to minimize noise bleed to our floor mates.

The doors to the studio automatically lock after 1 second and may take some getting used to. We ask that you refrain from propping the doors open and suggest making  an announcement at the start of class so everyone is familiar with how they work and the code needed to re-enter the space.

If at any time our floor mates request that you lower the volume on the PA system, we ask that you please respect this request within reasonable limits with regards to your own rental needs.

  • Pieter is located in the historic working class neighborhood of Lincoln Heights and is committed to solidarity with those most impacted by the violence of policing, gentrification, and displacement. Please join us in being good neighbors by spending your money at local businesses rather than large chains; being kind and courteous with neighbors, including the unhoused; considering the immediate harm that occurs when police are called; and being accountable to your and your guests’ presence in the neighborhood. If you have any ideas on how Pieter can be a better neighbor, please email pieterpasd@gmail.com.

  • Access to Pieter is granted through a keycode and lockbox system. For the safety and security of the space and our floormates, we request that you do not share access information with anyone who is not participating in your allotted booking time.

  • Pieter Lost & Found can be found on the shelf in the shared hallway, outside of the studio doors.

Renters are more than welcome to check the Lost & Found during their rentals or during Open Studio, which happens every Monday between 11AM and 2PM and the second Saturday of each month between 12PM and 3PM.

We do not keep an inventory of items left in the space and are not responsible for items left behind.

It is the primary renter’s responsibility to clear any items that have been brought into the space during their rental.
