PIETER INCUBATOR SERIES
The Pieter Incubator Series shares stories from people who have been rooted in and nourished by Pieter’s community over the years.
Vanessa Hernández Cruz (she/her/ella) is a multidisciplinary disabled dance artist based in Los Angeles, on Tongva land. Vanessa’s involvement with Pieter has spanned accessibility consulting, workshops, residencies, and fiscal sponsorship. Her story illustrates Pieter’s holistic commitment to supporting working artists.
Stacy Dawson Stearns (she/they) is a performer, educator, and curator. Stacy’s involvement in the Pieter community spans nearly two decades; her teaching, curation, and performance work set precedents for many programs that continue in the space to this day. Stacy’s stories vividly illustrate how Pieter has evolved over time, even as it stays true to its core values.
Joy Alegria’s (she/they) class series, Move into Stillness, has been a fixture of Pieter’s programming for many years. As a space for practicing presence through a vibrant blend of modalities, Move into Stillness embraces Pieter’s commitment to embodiment, curiosity, and community.
Bernard Brown (he/they), is a native Angeleno working in performance and curation. He is deeply invested in performance’s relationship to space and geography, and the histories of people that are often overlooked in the cultural mainstream. His project SISSIES: Something Perfect Between Us opened at Pieter this Friday, June 19.
The Pieter Incubator Series was created in collaboration with Pieter community member, Ajani Brannum.
