SISSIES: SOMETHING PERFECT BETWEEN OURSELVES

JUNE 19-21, 2026 at PIETER PERFORMANCE SPACE

Pieter is overjoyed to present Sissies: Something Perfect Between Ourselves, a performance and exhibition by, for and about Black, Brown and Indigenous Queer artists who have created spaces that feed the music, dance, fashion, and creative heartbeat of underground Queer LA.

This project honors LA’s Black Queer parties and clubs, which have served as a home for activism, joy, and care across decades.

As many of these spaces have closed and disappeared, there is a deep need to document history and build sites for expression and community.

The initial phase of this project included interviews with notable and everyday icons from within LA’s Black Queer Underground, gathering narrative histories and inviting them to share their stories, dreams and most audacious hopes for the future.

This performance and exhibition - merging film, fashion, movement and soundscapes - will include a gallery space inhabited by fully immersive and “occupiable” sculptural spaces that act as time capsules inspired by these stories.

In honor of Juneteenth, Pride Month and Black Music Month, these spaces will be available for exploration throughout the run of the Sissies opening on June 19. On June 20, the gallery will shift into a performance experience followed by a culminating party - transforming Pieter into a space for celebration.

In collaboration with Pieter Performance Space, this project is led by curator and choreographer Bernard Brown, Artistic Director of Bernard Brown/bbmoves, and co-creators Malachi Middleton (photographer/videographer) and DeFacto X/Du’Ron Fisher (composer/producer) and is funded by a Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts Infinite Expansion Grant.

Pieter is thrilled to be the creative home of this important and beautiful project; as we move closer to this exciting event, this page will hold more information including artist bios, production notes and upcoming ticket information.
